Electric Handpieces
There are two types of dental handpieces: Electric and Air-driven.
Air-driven handpieces are becoming a thing of the past. These are the "dental drills" of the old days that made the extremely high pitched whine.
Electric handpieces are run by a smooth and quiet motor as opposed to air. These handpieces are very quiet and comfortable when used on the teeth.
Most people's biggest complaint about the dental office experience is the loud and scary noise of the "dental drill". Electric handpieces eliminate that noise and put the patient at ease.
In an orthodontic office a dental handpiece is seldom used. Dr. Gibson rarely uses handpieces in his office. However, when a handpiece is needed, Dr. Gibson only uses electric handpieces. For the comfort of his patients, Dr. Gibson has been using electric handpieces since 2006.
When choosing an orthodontic provider, make sure that they use only electric handpieces. Your loved ones will thank you for it!
